While working as a freelance art director at Apple, I was invited to contribute some concepts to help support an upcoming Valentine's Day promotion in the Apple Retail store. In particular, some ideas were needed for in-store easel posters to promote the iPod Shuffle as the perfect Valentine's Day gift.
Initially, I focused on the ear bud cables. Arranging them as a heart, but eventually rejected it. I also thought the click wheel could be treated as a letterform. But how tie into Valentine's Day? The click wheel could be inserted in the word "love" as the "o" but it needed further development. Then I remembered Robert Indiana's famous typographic "LOVE" sculpture. This is not an interactive piece, and as such, I should probably take it out of my book, but it's one of my favorites.
